The Washington County Medical society approved creating a county credit and collection service to recover past due medical bills. Delinquent debtors will be notified and listed with names, amounts, and treating physicians, effective January 21, 1931, with settlement possible within ten days.
The Farmers Livestock Marketing association of Washington county opened Wednesday at Milwaukee stock yards to handle livestock any day. Tama hog salesman T. A. Flenner will lead, aided by Rene Warner, both with heavy livestock experience to serve producers. The office at Milwaukee yards is equipped with telephone 696 for contact, inviting producers to learn about marketing. County Agent Harold Montgomery urges farmers to use their own association.
Des Moines announces Senate committee chairmanships with Senator Will Carden of Winfield leading the committee on primary in charge of Henry and Washington counties during legislative proceedings.
Two Above Zero Last Night was the coldest of the current winter season with two degrees above zero as the minimum. Ernest HH Fabritz, Democrat of Wapello County, claimed victory over J. W. Hall, Republican, by six votes and earned unanimous seating by the contest committee led by D. R. McCreedy. Two contests remain with many holding certificates of election for Henry Berry and C. J. Ditto.
The Journal report on KTNT Muscatine misstated action by the federal radio commission. The wire story shows licenses were conditionally extended for several stations pending final decisions, with no final refusals, and outlines specific extension dates and stations involved.
Leo V. Brothers, accused of killed Tribune reporter Alfred J. Lingle, pleaded not guilty after arraignment in Chicago. He claimed to stand mute on advice of counsel as Judge John P. McGoorty ordered the plea. Trial date to be set by Judge John Brystalski.
A record turnout attended the Junior High P T A meeting last evening with over five dozen parents present. The junior high band conducted by Milburn McKay performed Waltzes marches and overtures, earning praise from parents. A. Atchison school board president spoke of planned changes to rooms and facilities while Supt J H Peet outlined needs for improvements ending with a social hour and popcorn balls made by PTA mothers.
Ives McKay of the Family Shoe store is confined to his home with grippe and lumbago. The illness limits his ability to manage daily duties at the shop.
The Muscatine Junior College team will play at the high school gym tomorrow evening after a preliminary with the high school second team and Ainsworth firsts at 7:00. Washington J C has won all its games this season and fans are promised thrilling basketball with a large crowd expected.
W W Wright, husband of Zoe Harmon, died last Saturday afternoon in Bedford after a brain tumor proved inoperable in Chicago last October. A young man in his early thirties and former college athlete, he leaves his wife and eight year old daughter Jon Louise.
