Washington January 21 The House debated a 250000 immigrant station appropriation as Hepburn urged tighter controls while Bourke Cochran praised immigrants and Sabath urged openness. Gaines shifted to finance amid a joke by Kustermann about cost per minute and audience laughter.
Harry Reynolds, night manager at the Western Union telegraph office in Newcastle Indiana, was seriously stabbed by Edward Daugherty a fifteen year old during an attempted ejection. Physicians say Reynolds will likely recover though wounds near the heart and throat were life threatening. Daugherty remains jailed on $500 bond. The incident prompts a town wide crusade to keep minors off streets after a reasonable hour.
Lord Curzon of Kedleston former viceroy of India won the majority of votes in Ireland to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Lord Kilmoreline in November. The Dublin result confirms Curzon's strong support among representative peers.
