Ford quickens oil import curb and tax credits plan

Washington felt a deep freeze after a two inch snow as temperatures plunged to three degrees below zero. President Ford prepared proclamations to tighten oil imports and expand investment credit on business taxes and planned to outline details of the program at a televised news conference Tuesday.

The Senate Democratic Caucus voted 4 57 to create a select committee to probe the CIA FBI and other intelligence agencies similar to the Watergate panel. Sen John Stennis opposed while Sen John Pastore announced the plan expects a Sept 1 report and awaits full Senate approval with a Democratic majority likely to back it.

Bass baritone Robert B. Anderson to sing in Washington concert

Robert B. Anderson, a bass baritone with a decade in Europe, returns to America for a Washington Concert Association event next Sunday January 26 at 3 p.m. in the high school auditorium. He will be joined by pianist Paul Moore. program spans opera, American folk and ballads, plus contemporary and Broadway music. Anderson, a Lincoln Nebraska native, studied at Nebraska and UCLA, won the National Carnegie Hall Auditions, and drew praise from Thomas Schippers.

City billed $84,445 sales tax on Crane plant equipment

Senator seeks Sunday liquor sales expansion in Iowa

Out-of-state Lottery Winners Highlight Illinois Draws

Out-of-state ticketholders have won nearly 2.3 million dollars in Illinois Lottery major drawings over 23 weeks. Missouri leads with 13 winners totaling 1.46 million, followed by Wisconsin with 730 thousand. Indiana and Iowa have smaller totals. Overall out-of-state winners account for about 13 percent of prizes.

Washington Community School District to study 1975 budget

The board will review a general fund budget estimate possibly up to 3 million dollars for fiscal year 1975 76, with a hearing likely in February. The plan includes 186 900 dollars in miscellaneous income and 314 550 dollars in unspent funds carried over, and proposes early deposits to earn more interest. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. with most of it devoted to staff evaluations in executive session.

Arab guerrillas free hostages at Paris Orly airport siege

Three masked Arab gunmen ended a 17 hour siege at Orly Airport by releasing ten hostages and fleeing by Air France Boeing 707. A police spokesman said all hostages were in good health though some were shocked. Egyptian Ambassador Kadry negotiated with the captors as Valery Giscard d Estaing sought a peaceful resolution.
