Contractor 43 Killed Moving Two Ton Safe
George McBride, a 43 year old building contractor, was killed in Marengo while helping move a two ton safe from the old Masonic temple to the new. He was pinned beneath the safe when it broke loose on a stairway as Guer n Hoyle and W. W. Nieland assisted. An auto wrecker lifted the safe from his body.

No State Pay For Phil Sproul
Phil Sproul secretary of the Iowa state safety council and staff have been removed from the state payroll. They had been paid partly by the motor vehicle division of the secretary of state's office. Secretary of State Karl G. Miller ordered the removal amid a dispute from last November. Sproul earned 1800 dollars annually and occupied space in the state house. His four stenographers and three field staff were affected. The safety council now relies on contributions and 50 cent memberships for support. Miller says the move saves twenty five thousand eight hundred fifty dollars annually.
