Two Men Indicted for Larceny by Embezzlement

Burlington Iowa January 17 The grand jury returns indictments against H K Nopke of Akron Ohio and W Gray of Philadelphia for embezzlement in a newspaper circulation scheme. They arrived in Iowa last April to offer books as premiums to subscribers and collected nearly 400 dollars before disappearing the night before accounts were to be settled. They showed letters of recommendation from publishers to The Gazette and efforts continue to locate them for trial.

St. Louis in sight off Nantucket on slow return to New York

Word reached New York that the American line steamer St. Louis from Southampton, sighted near Nantucket lightship at 640 p.m. traveling dead slow. Signals to the south shore lightship were poor due to heavy gale. She may not reach New York until late tonight, with indications of boiler trouble and short of steam power.

Liverpool Chambers Discuss U S Cuba Reciprocity
