Wandering felon Ross jailed for seven years in Iowa
Walter B. Ross 77 alias W R French an itinerant was sentenced by District Judge Shannon Chayiton to seven years at Fort Madison penitentiary on a charge of obtaining property by false pretenses. Ross came to Waterloo and set up a cabinet shop then obtained a car two adding machines a typewriter and sewing machine before disappearing and being arrested in Salem Oregon about ten days ago.

William J. Brown Dies. Funeral Planned in Wellman
William J. Brown died yesterday at his Wellman home. Plans call for viewing Saturday at L. A. Jones funeral home and the body to lie in state at the Baptist church in Wellman Sunday from two to four. A private funeral will be held Monday at ten at Jones with burial at Cedar Rapids. Brown, born February 26, 1856 in Chicago, was a long time well driller, farmer, and stock raiser. He lived in Wellman since age 15 and leaves two children Margery (deceased) and Mark, two grandchildren John and Judith, two brothers Charles J. Brown and Harry V. Brown, and a sister Mrs. John Birkey.

First day sales report 500 stamps sold from a consignment of 2 500. Washington postoffice received 2 500 stamps with one fifth sold in one day. A special window under Russell Miller handled sales with Postmaster M C DeLong planning to run it daily this week. Stamps cost 2 09 and require a one cent mailing stamp totaling 2 10 per car owner.
