In Pittsfield Illinois a car carrying Greenfield ministers Dr. Grover Van Duyn 65 Harvey Bettcher 56 Calvin Wheeldon 39 and Mrs Doris Bates 30 wife of Rev Lee Bates was struck by an oil truck on U S 36 four miles west of town. The four were killed and Rev Bates was critically injured while returning from a Nazarene conference in Kansas City Missouri. Police said the truck was in the wrong lane.
