Iowa farmer pleads guilty over war ration book false entry
Matthew Detsch of Balltown Iowa pleaded guilty in federal court to making false statements when registering for war ration book No 1. He was fined 500 dollars and costs for listing sugar stock at two pounds though he held 400 pounds. He testified he used some for wine and mixed some with cattle feed. He said no wine was sold, all was consumed.

Boy Takes Own Life Turning on the Gas
Marshalltown 16 year old Thomas Johnson son of Mrs Grace Johnson turned on a gas stove and suffocated himself. Neighbors found the body after his mother returned home from work smelling gas. He had been in ill health for some time and two pet bulldogs died from the fumes. Body at Wagner mortuary.

Creston Man Missing After Highway Crash
Creston in Union County officers searched Thursday for Charles Plum 49 a former WPA project superintendent and income tax adviser. Sheriff J R Ewing said Plum had not been seen since his car crashed into the end of a concrete bridge over Summit lake near town Wednesday morning. A hat and scarf were found floating on open water beneath the bridge and the lake was dragged without result.
