Brighton student chosen for Americans Abroad program 1967 68
Jerry Smith son of Mr and Mrs Bennett Smith of Brighton has been selected as an Americans Abroad student for 1967 68 and will represent the American Field Service near Sao Paulo Brazil during the next school year. He leaves New York January 20 and is a student at Washington High School. The selection was announced at a local AFS chapter meeting Friday with Dr Vernon Elgin presiding. Reports covered committees on student and family selections and school administration. Host parents Leon Hillman and Mrs Leon Hillman spoke about Suthep Vacharaprong from Thailand who is now available for talks. The nominating committee for the coming year was named and the next chapter meeting set for February 16 at the high school.

William Coyne Richard Fuchs and Timothy Berry known as a local trio in a Massillon community of 30000 died in a helicopter crash off Chu Lai South Vietnam. All three 20 year old lance corporals enlisted Dec 3 1965 under the buddy system. Their bodies not recovered.

Nursing Home Fire Evacuates 89 Residents in Council Bluffs
A Friday night fire at Northcrest Manor Nursing Home in Council Bluffs forced 89 residents to evacuate. No injuries were reported as six fire trucks and multiple ambulances aided the response. Ambulances from several funeral homes transported residents to Jenny Edmundson and Mercy Hospitals. others went to private homes. Fire Chief Norman Elgan cited heavy smoke and a lobby-originated fire with no determined cause.

Iowa woman charged in credit union embezzlement case
Inez Crane, 56, a Cedar Rapids employee and treasurer of the Cedar Rapids Community School Employees Credit Union, was charged in municipal court with embezzlement after an audit uncovered a $67,243 shortage. She was suspended Sept 12 1966, failed to furnish bond, and is jailed in Linn County. The union serves school system employees and is not part of the district.

Nine Die in North Philadelphia Row House Fire
A flash fire in a three story North Philadelphia home killed nine members of one family, with two adults and seven children among the dead. A visiting neighbor girl and two other family members survived with fractures as flames raced from the first floor upward. Deny Bombers Based in Thailand Report
