Let Contract for Work On Highway 92 Here
A contract for asphaltic concrete resurfacing of highway 92 between Washington and the Louisa County line was let Wednesday afternoon by the State Highway Commission. The Norris Construction Co. of Ottumwa received the contract with a bid of 159,865 dollars. This part of highway 92 was widened a few years ago and the application of the asphaltic concrete surface is another step in improvement of the highway.

Fumes Cause Scare At Max See Home
Five members of the Max See family were found in a state of collapse by a local doctor at their home on East Jefferson after gas furnace fumes filled the two story house. The doctor said none are seriously ill but all should rest and remain in bed for the day due to headaches and temporary arm and hand paralysis. The fumes traced to a plugged chimney with no liner and poor cleaning allowing combustion byproducts to back up into the home.

A severe earthquake struck Arequipa Peru killing at least 38 people and injuring over 200. Gas Main Leak Linked to McKeone Explosion
After a two day search by Iowa Southern Utilities a gas main leak in front of the Leonard McKeone home was found. Utilities official Ted Johnson said gas likely seeped into the house via a sewer line and caused the blast that destroyed the two story frame home on Tuesday morning. Leonard McKeone and his family are displaced while seeking lodging and a new home.
