Fire damages Seymour tavern and apartment
Fire burned the interior of a tavern and its apartment in Seymour Iowa causing estimated damages of 15000 to 20000. The blaze started on the tavern’s first floor and climbed upward. No injuries were reported as Centerville and Corydon firecrews aided Seymour and prevented spread to nearby Post Office and a second tavern.

FBI Aids in Probe of Iowa Bank Theft
FBI agents assisted local authorities in investigating the theft of 38 safety deposit boxes from the Farmers Trust and Savings Bank in Gillett Grove Iowa. Thieves pried open a bank door and entered the vault early Wednesday. About $60 was taken from the bank and other sites in the break ins.

May Keep Money Found In Home of Woman 80
Polk County welfare officials refused to say if 80 year old Emma Norma Collins will keep any of the 2702 found in her condemned three room home near the city dump. They note old age pension rules limit personal property to 300, and records are confidential. Collins saved most of her 41.50 monthly pension, picking through the dump for clothing and food.

Sixteen Sailors Rescued by Dutch Navy Helicopter
A royal Dutch navy helicopter saved 16 crew members from the 1550 ton Norwegian freighter Gatt off the Dutch coast amid ice and snow.
