Winter Memories of Coal Shortage and Cold Snows
In Noble and nearby areas 1936 and 1937 brought severe coal scarcities and deep snows with drift piles over twenty feet. The writer recalls small coal lots, bobsled trips to fetch wood, record lows around twenty-two below zero, a thawing doctor, and local anecdotes of snow men and chilly New Year reflections. Community tales mention church attendance, leap year notes, and neighborly visits during harsh winters.
