Tax List Announced by County Auditor for Washington County
Miss Ethel Grecian the county auditor today announced the abstract of the tax list for Washington County showing total taxes of 828 835 94 a decrease of about 13 000 from last year. Major expenses include district schools over 350 000 and road taxes above 138 000 with other town and general taxes. Taxes are payable now mainly in installments in March and September with no penalty until after April 1.

James M Williams Dies in Oelwein at 84
James Madison Williams age eighty four died at his daughter’s home in Oelwein Iowa after a stroke last Sunday. Funeral services to be held Wednesday at 2 30 in Sigourney Christians church with interment in Sigourney cemetery. He lived in Washington twelve years with Dr and Mrs Kerr and was fond of outdoor life and fishing.

Aged Brighton Resident Joseph Schooley Dies at 76
Joseph Schooley aged 76 of Brighton died at 1 15 this morning at his home after a long illness. Born October 12 1848 in Ohio he moved to Brighton 65 years ago and lived there over four decades. He leaves three sons Marion of Des Moines Oscar and Clarence of Brighton ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral at Hoskins funeral home Thursday at two with burial in Brighton cemetery. Delores Decker two died in Fairfield hospital from pneumonia after a whooping cough illness. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Decker of Pleasant Plain her mother Dell Singleton and grandmother Mrs Ed Singleton of Brighton.

Frank Hott Dies at Mare Island Naval Hospital
Frank A. Hott died at Mare Island California Naval hospital on January 4 after a long naval career. He was 53 and survived by his widow Charlotte Hott of Vallejo a sister Myra Skelley of San Francisco and cousin Maude Hott of Washington.

Mennonites Contribute Food and Clothing to County Relief
Sugar Creek Mennonite church near Wayland donated a large food and clothing collection to the county welfare office. One half ton of corn meal, at least 20 bushels of potatoes, 44 cans of vegetables and 10 gallons of lard were included plus cabbage onions molasses buckwheat flour carrots turnips and clothing.
