Mrs Jess Wilson was being treated for serious injuries after a gas heater she lit exploded in her bathroom in Garner. The accident occurred at her home, with authorities responding to the scene.
Prof. George M. Fuller resigns as head of industrial economics at Iowa State College after twelve years. President Dr. Charles E. Friley announced the departure.
Cynthia Town Send of Ottumwa died May 30 1936 and left a $2945 estate with real estate valued at $2925 and household goods at $20. The probate inventory in district court lists 44 beneficiaries, mostly grand nieces and nephews.
Des Moines state party chair F E Birmingham says the Jackson Day dinner committee surpassed its goal with more than 1 000 tickets sold at 25 dollars each and has the money in the box. Henry Wallace federal secretary of agriculture will headline the event.
The Kohrs Packing Co. announces an end to the Davenport strike by 18 workers at the cold storage plant. President Frank Kohrs says the organizers’ demands were unjustified and not met, and the workers are glad to return to work.
Winburn McNealy a farmer nine miles northeast of Charles City filed a district court petition seeking 5000 dollars in damages from Clete Harrison alleging Harrison won the affections of McNealy’s wife Dora during August 1957.
Winfield residents mourn as 70 year old blacksmith John Myers is found burned to death in his home ruins. A basketball game nearby drew spectators who rushed out when the Myers residence ignited. A fallen kerosene lamp is believed to have started the blaze, with Myers possibly dead or unconscious before the fire.
James Van Nostrand of Newton president of the state Junior Chamber of Commerce will speak at the banquet sponsored by the Wapello County Rural Youth society. The event caps the county's first rural short course opening Monday and running through Friday. Van Nostrand accepted the invitation.
Beverly and Bernard Watters were moved from their Bremer county cabin to the home of their aunt Mrs Mathilda Sommer after being seriously wounded by their mother Mrs Elias Watters. Doctors report no permanent disability for the two children.
Mulcahy 65 and Pauline 70 residents of Melbourne died from burns after Mulcahy tried to start a kitchen fire with kerosene. An oil lamp or embers in the stove ignited the kerosene causing a blast that soaked the couple.

French police and British protests followed as Japanese marines seized the New Asia hotel. The incident raised fears of wider international repercussions while China’s Communist Congress urged mobilization of labor for resistance to Japan.

The firm will sell parts and service Allis-Chalmers tractors and machinery, taking over from C. B. Philips. The store occupies former Sorrell Auto Parts space west of Brad Field’s garage with a listed telephone 352.
