Polish and Lithuanian frontier guards exchanged shots near Krzaczyna last night. One Lithuanian soldier was wounded as border posts were cut down in a protest against the boundary. Firing escalated with both sides firing.
The death of KE C Bloom father of Rev Mrs KE Hillis of Oelwein Iowa is announced. He lived at West Chester for a year and a half while they were there. He suffered a paralytic stroke on Christmas day and died January 4 at 5 00 am. Funeral services were held in Oelwein and at Tiskilwa Illinois birthplace where he was interred.
Des Moines reports Governor Hammill plans to call a special Iowa legislature session to consider a $100,000,000 paying bond issue. A legislative committee handed him pledges from a majority of Senate and House members urging a Jan 31 start to pass the road bill, with other business barred. The attorney general declined to rule on the measure’s constitutionality.
Attorneys for Joe Kinney in the Oxford murder case prepare to argue the defense's motion. The defendant, 26, is on trial in Iowa City for the killing of Milo Slezak. The day focuses on whether Kinney purchased .45 caliber revolver shells at Williamsburg the morning of the slaying.
Frel D. Tullis and Clifford B. Adaire Levy are indicted for assaulting a Leon post office employee and robbing the Leon office. Edgar Reynolds, a substitute clerk, was wounded while resisting. a small cash amount was taken. At Charlestown Navy Yard Boston Mass January 6 1927 testimony from Lieut Commander Edward Ellsberg retired salvage expert said only continued bad weather prevented rescuing the six men trapped in the torpedo room after the S-4 sank. He argued if diving had been possible while alive the crew could have supplied needed food clothing and art if necessary.
Mrs. Cora Pearl Weldman of the Wellman community was sentenced by Judge Charles A. Dewey to one year in prison. She will serve at the state reformatory for women in Rockwell City and was fined ten dollars after pleading guilty to marrying Charles Darby while not divorced from Feldman. Sheriff Denison accompanied her to Rockwell City.
A Chicago group led by George F. Brennan will offer to cover all expenses for the Democratic National Convention to be held in Chicago. They plan to depart for Washington next week with a $125,000 proposal as a sign they are ready to host the event.

Funeral services for Owen P. McKevitt a former Washington man who died this week in Moline will be held at nine oclock Saturday morning at St James Catholic church. The funeral party will reach Washington this evening and the body will be taken to the home of his sister Mrs Leslie Payne.

A separate January 1 birth in Crawfordsville Paul Gilbert Moothart 1928 arrives at 2 20 p m but his parents were not Journal subscribers at birth. The Journal will send a $10 check to Paul Gilbert as a nest egg gesture.
Former Ainsworth resident Anna Hamil dies Tuesday at her Canton South Dakota home after a lingering illness. She leaves husband William Hamil and a foster daughter Mrs Hamii was reared in the community as daughter of the late Carson Crawford. One brother Rolla Crawford of Kansas City survives.

Francis Xavier Rummelhart of Riverside dies at his daughter's home aged 100. He lived in Johnson county 75 years and left 13 children, eight surviving, plus 51 grandchildren, 136 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren totaling 207 direct descendants. Burial was at St Marys Riverside with service at St Marys Church.
