Iowa hearing opens on PAS plan to reorganize state
An advisory committee in Des Moines began hearing objections to recommendations by a Chicago consulting firm to consolidate Iowa state government. The Public Administration Service proposes 120 plus agencies into 13 departments headed by governors appointees. Critics from the Iowa Employment Security Commission, the Iowa Commission for the Blind, and the State Medical Library urged exceptions and warned the plan could erode cooperation between labor and management and compromise specialized services. The panel will forward its findings to Governor Hughes ahead of the 1967 Legislature convening Monday.

Nearly 900 people were expected for the installation of Most Rev. Gerald F. O'Keefe as the 6th Bishop of Davenport. The 11 a.m. ceremony at Sacred Heart Cathedral was to be officiated by Archbishop James Byrne of Dubuque. O'Keefe comes from St. Paul Minnesota where he served as auxiliary bishop. Farm Bureau to Seek Tax Relief in Iowa
Iowa Farm Bureau president J Merrill Anderson told about 3000 members in Des Moines that property tax relief is the top issue for farmers as the 1967 Legislature convenes. He warned of a $9 million hike if the battle is lost and urged readiness to block cuts to the state tax refund on gas used off highways. Anderson said the central question is whether farming moves toward a market system or public utility regulation. Legislative director John C Lynn noted a new willingness to heed farm families as Congress meets, saying Iowa helped shape the Washington climate by opposing government supply management for agriculture.

Bordwell Faces Tax Evasion Charges in Iowa
Richard Bordwell of Washington Iowa, aged 42, is charged with evading federal income taxes for 1961. He allegedly filed a false return reporting 907 dollars taxable income with no tax due while earning 6205 dollars and owing 1285 dollars. The case was delayed for pre sentence investigation by Federal Judge Roy L Stephenson. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a ten thousand dollar fine.

City Councilmen Meet on Tuesday in Washington
