Washington officials say Moscow has accepted January 25 for the Big Four foreign ministers conference in Berlin. Diplomats expect a face to face meeting with Molotov and warn that a Soviet refusal to negotiate in good faith would expose their peace claims as a phony. The United States Britain and France agreed in notes to hold the Berlin meeting with the Jan 25 date after Russia sought a three week postponement.

Killer Of Illinois Coach Shot In Parked Car
Edgar Schaefer a 26 year old high school coach and teacher was shot while sitting in a parked car with his girlfriend Gay Odom near U 8 50. A man appeared at the driver side window shone a flashlight and fired striking Schaefer in the heart. He fled up a railroad embankment. Odom said there was no demand for money and offered no motive.

Trampling Toll at Imperial Palace New Year Event
Seventeen people died and about fifty were injured as crowds surged into the imperial palace grounds in Tokyo during New Year festivities.
