Bicentennial train ends long journey
MIAMI AP The 20 month Bicentennial journey of the American Freedom Train is over. 73 year old Roy Pop McCormack said riding the train changed his views on the nation after hearing about crime and Watergate. The train carried Lincoln’s rocking chair, Elroy Hirsch’s shoes, Shirley Temple’s bear, and letters in the hands of Franklin and Jefferson.

Coast Guard sinks wrecked Argo Merchant to prevent hazard
The Coast Guard blasted 12 rounds of 20mm cannon at the Liberian tanker Argo Merchant to sink it after it ran aground on Nantucket Shoals amid a 7.6 million gallon spill. A new safety task force chaired by Donald Bliss will review marine regulations with a preliminary report due Jan. 8, while Coast Guard officials warned the slick could spread toward the Gulf Stream.
