Washington County rejects Dora Jones farm park gift
The Washington County Board of Supervisors decided not to accept a 120 acre farm left by Dora Jones for a public park and to turn it over to the Washington County Hospital instead. The will's terms would also have used 40 nearby acres sale proceeds for park development and a hospital building fund. The decision keeps $150,000 to $200,000 in play as a hospital fund and adds gifts of 2000 and 5000 dollars for equipment, plus a shared half-block parcel.

Washington High School Band Presents Mid Winter Concert
A large audience enjoyed Washington High School concert band’s mid winter program at the high school. The varied repertoire included small groups and two vocal soloists Pam Loeffler and Dave Everetts, plus a square dance number by PE folk dancers. Lighting by Mike Worley enhanced the evening. Alan Bergstrom again directed the concert, with program covers supplied by the Art Service Club.

Exploding bombs strike Long Xuyen home and Saigon police
Viet Cong terrorists stepped up attacks in South Vietnam with a plastic bomb ripping the home of an American military adviser in Long Xuyen and a grenade injuring five at the Go Vap station near Saigon. No deaths were reported in Long Xuyen. one police officer was seriously hurt. A separate theater bombing that killed an American MP and wounded forty nine others led to the arrest of a suspected Viet Cong extremist, identified by a witness as the bomber. Eight US medics escaped an ambush while eight Vietnamese soldiers escorting them were killed.

United Press International reports Iowa will stay fair and warmer into Saturday with low temperatures in the 20s and highs near 50 to 55. Sunday is expected partly cloudy and mild. The five day forecast shows temperatures 4 to 8 degrees above normal through Wednesday with small daily changes. Normal highs range from the middle 30s in the north to near 50 in the south, and lows from the teens north to the upper 20s south. Precipitation averages from a tenth to four tenths of an inch, mostly early in the week.
