Mrs Charles E Townsend wife of Michigan senator is critically ill at her Washington home after a paralytic stroke with little hope for recovery.
Transports Wilhelmina Ulua and Caserta arrive from France with about 4 406 veterans of the American expeditionary forces. The Wilhelmina carries 83 officers and 1375 enlisted men from convalescent detachments and medical units. the Ulua brings supply trains trench mortar battery and signal battalion with hundreds of personnel. Caserta transports coast artillery regiment and replacement units. All troops on board are Black soldiers along with some officers and civilian casuals.
President Wilson reiterates he will not call Congress into extraordinary session until his return from France. He warned Republicans they will be responsible for any failure of the Victory Liberty loan bill while reiterating confidence in a League of Nations. Large crowds cheered as the president entered the Capitol and led a parade home, with celebrations marking soldiers’ return and a half holiday across the city.
Washington reports an explosive congressionally disclosed rift between General Pershing and the war department. Representative Royal C Johnson charges Pershing refused to certify orders for review by the judge advocate general in France cases. Six soldiers remain under death sentence as Pershing reportedly ignored the order citing articles of war.
London Feb 28 An American airman Second Lieutenant Lee Cossing was killed instantly when his aircraft nose-dived and crashed into the Haddingtonshire coast. The tragedy occurred during an overseas mission and authorities confirmed the fatality.
Britain's industrial congress, led by Lloyd George, votes a 60 member commission from labor and capital to investigate unrest, unemployment, and cooperation. The miners delay strike to March 22 pending report, while government promises easing food costs and peace preliminaries within weeks.

Washington February 28 The Victory Liberty loan bill passed by the house was favorably reported by the senate finance committee without changes. Republicans planned to offer amendments and oppose the financing corporation's funding as the bill moves toward final action.
Police report a robbery at the James B. Oliver estate office in Pittsburgh during the night. A thief forced the office door and broke a safe, stealing Liberty bonds worth 10000 plus cash, and fled without detection by watchmen.
