A Milwaukee impostor posed as William S. Guy newly reestablished in business. Chicago wholesalers shipped goods totaling about fifty two train carloads worth up to 60 thousand dollars before payment defaults revealed the scam. The true Guy died in 1900, leaving a trail of letters from unaffiliated merchants and canned goods buyers.
