In Charlotte a bank employee identified a gunman who robbed them of 8842 on Friday. The suspect had been refused a loan 30 minutes earlier for lack of suitable references, triggering quick recognition by staff.
Prominent Irish Democrats balk at party chair Stephen A. Mitchell's stance on not dining with Senator Joseph McCarthy at a St. Patrick's Day event in Chicago. Mitchell said he would not break bread with McCarthy, citing false witness against millions. Daley said McCarthy's presence would not bar his attendance, while club leader John J. Kelly avoided taking a stand, noting past Democrats including Truman attended such events.
