Darlene Brown aged 14 married Edward Douglas 20, an unemployed coal hauler, in Des Moines for a second time after an earlier March 5 1935 Indianola ceremony was annulled on grounds of her youth. Parents did not object to the remarriage.
The Sioux City council amended the furnace ordinance to require licensing for those in the business, set a $50 license for the first year then lower fees, and mandate a $2000 bond. City Furnace Inspector Carl Roman said the change would eliminate irresponsible operators.
Doreas Jane Schoppe a 17 year old Jefferson high school senior was chosen as Iowa’s most outstanding high school girl and DAR representative She will attend the state regent dinner in Des Moines receive a paid trip to Washington for the national DAR convention and act as guest of honor
Webster City reports Mrs. Madge Gordon was sent to Rockwell City reform school for five years for operating a disorderly horse. Had she attended the local theater for a bank night drawing, she would have won $350.
Albert Gauthier of Corning reports his 90 pound police dog Jack was rescued from a seven foot hole dug for a power line pole. Jack had been missing three days and was saved after Clerk Carmichael heard whines while walking along the road. He endured rough conditions during captivity.
Des Moines report notes Dean Willard Johnson indicating Drake University will likely act after a fist fight over "its lady's honor" between two students. A special committee questioned Ernest Bergmann, a 200-pound football player, and Dan Anderson, editor of the Drake Times-Delphic.
Jack Norman, 16, admitted in Newton court to stealing a car from Mrs. Russell Sparks on February 3. A former Flora training school inmate, he had been paroled to the Sparks family to work on their farm and was captured after the assault.
Paul West, 2H, received a 10 year sentence at Anamosa reformatory after pleading guilty to breaking and erasing Bob's sandwich shop over a month ago. District Judge W. Smith paroled West after asking why he pursued crime.
Rescue crews moved the last of farmer L. OO. Potter’s cattle to safety as the Iowa River rose, flooding 2000 acres south of Iowa City and swamping Potter’s farm and two neighboring holdings.
In Des Moines on February 27 Rep C L Rice of Delta opened an assembly of empty seats and adjourned the house. The session declared adjourned to noon next Wednesday, bypassing a constitutional limit without the other chamber's consent.
Funeral services for BD H Miller who died Friday afternoon will be held Sunday at 2 PM at Sherman’s funeral home with Dr F W Eastwood officiating. Burial will follow at Ainsworth. Miller, born 1857 near Ainsworth, leaves wife Emma Jane, daughter Alma Mast, son Howard P Miller, and several grandchildren. A county American Legion meeting is planned next Wednesday in Kalona with all members urged to attend. no dues.
Severt, long time local insurance representative, is named cashier of Wellman Savings Bank and will start Monday. He intends to keep his contract with Mutt Benefit Life Insurance while leaving other firms. The family will not move to Wellman until after spring break.
Senator Vic Donahey of Ohio the 35th senator to condemn the president's court program said any proposal affecting the federal judiciary should be submitted to the people, the sorres of all political power. Administration leaders hoped several Supreme Court justices would retire under a law allowing voluntary retirement at 70 with full pay for life.

Miss Alice Wilson 70 of Keota died last evening at Washington county hospital after a hip fracture. A lifelong resident of seventy six township she taught in Keota high school and other Iowa schools. She was a member of the Keota United Presbyterian church and Chapter CM of the PEO sisterhood. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 30 in Keota Federated church with Rev. Verne Butler officiating. Burial in Keota cemetery.
A district court session before Judge Frank Bechly heard claims to three automobiles by Davenport Finance Company against the Oral Sweet estate. The parties agreed to resolve the matter by a final law suit in district court after a replevin seizure of the cars following Mr. Sweet's death.
Iowa Democratic leaders across counties receive Birmingham letter urging them to write Washington lawmakers in support of expanding the Supreme Court to 15 justices. State Chairman F E Birmingham says letters aim to reflect Iowa sentiment and press Congress and Senators Herring Gillette and Harrington to back Roosevelt’s plan.

They borrowed Carl Bauer’s car, drove to Washington, wrecked it on Madison street, and were arrested by Sheriff H. M. Putnam while returning on foot.
Funeral services for Lee Cummings follow his death ruled a suicide by Coroner Reynolds of Sigourney. Services set for tomorrow afternoon likely at Marsh funeral home with burial in Keota cemetery. no inquest held.
