A blaze in Rochester New York causes six million dollars in damage marking the greatest fire loss in the city’s history. Firefighters battle the flames through the night as shops and homes are destroyed. Authorities investigate the cause and assess the total impact on residents and businesses.
In Des Moines at the State Capitol building two women visitors, Mrs. Fountain and her mother Mrs. A Houck of Valley Junction, were crushed to death when an elevator moved with them in its path. The accident occurred in the basement as they attempted to enter, leaving both bodies badly mutilated.
