Factory workers see wage boosts amid price rise
The labor department reports average hourly earnings for 12.8 million factory workers rose one cent to $1.28 last month. The 1999 average was 63.2 cents. This marks a 105 percent rise since 1939, with weekly incomes up 119 percent over that period as consumer prices increased Tl percent.

Bernard Walker Dies at Ottumwa
Bernard Walker 53 of Martinsburg died early today at St. Josephs hospital Ottumwa after an emergency operation. He was raised in Ainsworth and Washington counties and married Helen Albau gh Feb 10 1923. Funeral Friday at St James church with burial in Elm Grove. He served in World War I and belonged to St Marys church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife four children one sister and two brothers.
