DES MOINES Feb 24 Dry forces in the Iowa house blocked delaying action on the dry beer bill keeping it as a special order of business. The measure faces a Wednesday vote after last week’s calendaring. A Hicklin deferral failed 52 to 40 and a recommitment failed 62 to 40. House minority leader Poston called the move an effort to kill the bill. Avery called the bill a hot potato while awaiting a verdict on the majority’s will. The house also passed a pharmacy bill requiring pharmacist supervision of all drugs and medicines and approved a Des Moines building purchase for the Board of Health at 6500. Another measure would authorize WWII memorial stadiums and expand the commission from five to nine members.

Oscar H. Davis 68 died at seven this morning at his home on West Main street after a three week illness. Funeral services at 2:30 Wednesday at Sherman's funeral home with Dr. Fred K. Miller officiating. Burial at Kim Grove cemetery. He was born February 24 1879 in Taylor county Iowa son of Russell and Margaret Davis. Survived by cousins Grace Fred Alvin Floyd Shaw and Mrs James Brooks and Mary Davis who cared for him after his wife’s death. He was a Mason and active in local lodge chapters and Davenport Shriners. He lived most of his life near Washington except for two years in Kansas.
