Iowa lawmakers halted work Friday for a decade day break with 158 members leaving early to tend to personal matters. By afternoon the house had sent across 46 bills including a broad measure to create a social security system for about 50 000 state county city and school district employees in Iowa.
A jury verdict ruled in favor of Sigma Chi in a 1 258 dollar suit filed by Margaret and Mary Mueller Iowa City The sisters sought triple damages for alleged damage to their house occupied by the fraternity for five months of 1944 Fraternity members testified they paid a 50 dollar damage bill and no further damage occurred The house had been taken over by the army prior to occupancy by Sigma Chi
In Polk County district court Edward W. Roelofs seeks contempt against O. L. Weber over a temporary injunction. Roelofs alleges a police barred him from the secretary treasurer’s office at 6041 Grand Ave. Weber must appear at 9 a.m. next Tuesday to explain why contempt should not be found.
Jasper J Jarrett, convicted killer of a Gowrie employer, was executed at Ft Madison state penitentiary for the fatal assault on Everett Warden. He died without a word, showing brief emotion as he moved to the gallows. He was Iowa's thirty fourth hanging victim.

A Miller Lumber Co truck from Wellman collided with a car driven by Mrs. Elma Rummelhart of Riverside on a riverside street yesterday. She sustained head and face injuries. Vehicle damage was about 300 dollars.
In Mexico City on February 24, reports suggest Brazil may establish relations with Russia and seek a permanent seat on the world security council. Delegates insist Brazil seeks constant Latin American cooperation and a permanent council place, with unconfirmed word that Secretary Stettinius may back the bid. The talks note Russia’s prior stance on neutrals and anticipate postwar inter-American proposals from the United States.
Farmers told to hold January and February milk and butterfat slips until after April 1 as the next dairy production payments cover three months January February and March instead of two. About 137 000 Iowa producers receive payments. First quarter 1945 rates are 60 cents per hundredweight for whole milk and 30 cents per pound for butterfat. Payments run April 2 to May 31 1945 with May 31 as final filing date for the January February March quarter.
Dr. Walter Daykin of the University of Iowa told about 150 church men at the Methodist church that labor after the war will seek a balanced capitalism aided by collective bargaining and greater input in plant operation. He stressed security as labor’s main objective, with responsibilities to avoid excessive demands while pursuing improved living standards. The talk covered political and economic tactics used by labor, including strikes and boycotts, and Daykin urged fair, impartial discussion between labor and management.
The period to file for January February and March dairy feed payments has begun. Farmers are urged to submit their applications promptly to ensure eligibility for the program and timely disbursement.

Sergeant Frederick Frederick, now home on furlough, serves as swimming instructor at Camp LeJeune North Carolina. After 28 months in the southwest Pacific he has taught thousands of Marines to swim and leads a strong camp team, specializing in the butterfly and breast stroke. He returned to the states last June amid malaria recovery and emphasizes his near complete improvement through swimming.

Gen. Douglas MacArthur reports that American paratroopers and Filipino guerrillas rescued 2,146 civilians from Los Banos internment camp near Manila. The raid killed the Japanese garrison, freed 1,584 Americans, 329 British, and 43 Australians, with two Americans killed and two wounded.
Leigh Soule leaves Dayton for Columbus to supervise YMCA work across south eastern Ohio. Formerly YMCA secretary in Washington, he joined Dayton in 1942 and led services in nineteen communities, earning a nationally recognized Hi Y pin as he departs in April.
More than 1600 American war planes bombed oil rail and shipping targets across northwestern Germany. The large force of over 1100 Flying Fortresses Liberators and 500 escorting fighters attacked refineries at Tramburg Harburg and Mis surg and Nazi U boat yards in Hamburg and Bremen. Additional raiders from Italy joined the attack over Austria.
Bernice Speake filed for a divorce from Hilbert Speake in district court. They wed March 27, 1937 and separa ted May 6, 1944. She seeks custody of three minor children and support. Attorney Richard A. Stewart represents the plaintiff.
