An explosion in the basement of Proctor's theater in Yonkers New York injures and kills several bystanders. Officials report two dead and a dozen or more hurt as ambulances rush to the scene and two repair workers were nearby when the blast occurred.
Rev. Vernon Ti. Carter and Mrs. Carter arrived in Washington and will reside at the Christian church parsonage. Carter begins duties Sunday as pastor after being called to the church from Panora Iowa.

He landed in a field with a broken leg and lay in near zero weather four hours before a farmer found him. A second army mail pilot Lieut Lowry died in a crash near Dashler in an adjoining county less than a day earlier.
