Ida Harmon Dies Long in Washington Business
Ida Harmon longtime Washington businesswoman died at her home 215 North Fourth Avenue after months of illness. Funeral services planned Friday at 2 30 at J Jones funeral home with Dr F F C Witzigman presiding and interment in Elm Grove cemetery. Born December 14 1858 in Bureks neighborhood she moved to Riverside and taught school before entering business with Nicola Essley and Harmon. She helped run the Nicola Harmon and Essley store then owned the Washington shoe and book stores with family. A trusted community figure, she supported the Washington Chautauqua and many civic groups including the Methodist Church Eastern Star White Shrine Royal Neighbors and YWCA. Surviving are brothers and sisters Oliver Essley Sarah Nicola Samantha Essley and Adeline Harmon. Two brothers and one sister are noted as deceased.
