ISU to Build Huge New Generator in Burlington Area
Iowa Southern Utilities Company plans a 20 million dollar electric generating station on the Mississippi River three miles south of Burlington. Construction to begin in 1965 with commercial operation by May 1968. The turbo generator unit initially will output 140000 kilowatts, potentially larger as plans mature. The project relies on the Iowa Power Pool and a 161000 volt grid line to Fairfield in 1966, with future expansion to 600000 kilowatts or more as demand grows. The plant will interconnect with a line west of the site to serve later loads.
