The Hogan farm house west of Columbus Junction burned at dawn from a defective flue. Loss about 1000 dollars for the house and contents. insurance 500 dollars with T. Elliott of Libertyville. In a separate note, Tom Elliott of Libertyville died after a 50 foot fall from a bridge on a Chicago bound freight near Fort Madison while returning from a sheep shipment. He was 52.

Washington's Birthday Celebration at Baptist Church

A warm gathering at the Baptist church celebrated Washington's birthday with a flag adorned pulpit and portraits of George and Martha Washington. Miss Ross read on General Washington, Miss Kerr and Miss Sage presented a sketch on Washington's old home, and a varied musical program followed including piano duets and solos. The event raised about $14 from a 10 cent admission and ended with an art gallery contest in the Sunday school room.

The Rathbone Sisters and K P Knights held a social last night at Mr and Mrs J A Y Ashbys with over forty attendees. Activities included games and a shared supper. Miss Verne Ashby performed piano solos. The event earned praise as one of their best socials.
