Two Trucks Wrecked Near West Chester
Muddy roads caused a pair of truck wrecks near West Chester around 1 PM. Both drivers escaped injury as the Armstrong company semi from Chester Iowa slid on the curve and overturned into a ditch, followed by a Prucker company truck from Omaha driven by Erling Christiansen of Atlantic Iowa which also overturned and struck the first machine. Ernest E. Mescher was the first truck driver. Both rigs suffered major cab and trailer damage.

House Panel Proposes 18 1/2 Year Draft Plan
The House armed services committee floated a tentative draft plan to recruit men at 18 and a half for 26 months with combat eligibility delayed until 19. Induction would begin at 18 years six months and minimum four months of pre combat training. The top draft age remains largely at 25, with deferments for students up to 34. combat exposure would be after age 19.
