Iowa lawmakers debated migrant child labor standards on a 51 to 66 vote defeat of an amendment to align migrant age limits with street trades. Tapscott warned of exploitation in migrant labor.

SAIGON United States resumed B52 missions in Vietnam today and reported 19 American GIs killed and nine injured in four helicopter crashes. Guerrilla ground fire downed helicopters, and a Huey crash near Da Lat killed eight Americans and injured nine. Casualties for the week show 96 Americans killed and 589 wounded in action, with 222 Vietnamese dead and 710 wounded. Battlefield reports say Allied troops killed at least 135 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong in clashes.
Police Sgt. Brian McDonnell, 20 years with the force and father of three, died from bomb injuries after a Haight Ashbury station attack. Seven other officers were injured as flags flew at half staff in San Francisco, while state voices protested the assault. The device, filled with inch long staples, exploded on the window sill of McDonnell's Golden Gate Park office, severing his jugular and lodging a staple in his brain.

Florida Governor Kirk asked Iowa to consider legislation to ban sale of alligator products. Iowa Governor Ray forwarded the inquiry to Conservation Committee Chairman Dale Tieden, who said current Florida and federal laws suffice and that opposition cited banning handbag sales entering Iowa. He added that alligator products have largely disappeared from Iowa markets in recent years.
