In Creston the First National Bank says it has paid all deposits under 190 in full at the time of closing. The payment is funded by a voluntary contribution by the bank. Depositors have received 87 percent overall.
Mrs. Phyllis Toolley a Cedar Rapids waitress turned in a found roll of $100 at a restaurant prompting police to help identify the rightful claimants. The proprietor aided in the search for the owner.
In a special election the town of Madrid approved a new multi year franchise for the Electric Light and Power Co. of Boone by 634 to 248 votes. The existing franchise ends in June.
NewtonDistrict Judge J G Patterson overruled a demurrer to a perjury indictment against Chis Albright Lynnville a World War veteran He sustained a motion for a bill of particulars in the conspiracy charge on which Albright and O K Younker were indicted in connection with irregularities in the Jasper county soldiers relief commission affairs
A survey by Prof. Frank Kerekes of Town State College shows ten percent of senior college students at Iowa State submit papers that would fail freshman grammar and about 18 percent use language so poor that instructors might reject their papers.
A Berg bill proposed in the Iowa Senate by Rep Bers Black Hawk requires both applicants for a marriage license to pass a physician exam proving freedom from venereal disease at least 15 days before applying. No county clerk could issue a license without the certificate.
Ames report attributes musical talent to women on the Iowa State campus as capable as men though marriage expectations hinder careers. Rudolf Ganz, Chicago based impresario, notes recent southwest talent is strong but access remains the main challenge.
The national Democratic Committee offers 190 tickets at 50 dollars each for a Victory dinner in Des Moines at Hotel Fort Des Moines on Thursday night March 4. Accepted donors will have their names engraved on the program and receive a letter of thanks from James Farley.

Tonight and tomorrow the Y M C A hosts a large circus in Washington. The event, sponsored by the Ye Men's club as a Y M C A benefit, uses the building’s downstairs for entertainment and features concessions, an athletic show, vaudeville acts, a public auction, and unlimited refreshments.
Philip Murray of the United Mine Workers outlined a 30 hour week with overtime and paid vacation as union demands. Charlies P. ONeil of United Western coal company pressed for an eight hour day and lower base wages with regional pay differences and a possible piece rate to boost earnings.
A bill prepared for Senate aims to improve primary highways in cities and towns under 2,500 population including charter municipalities. It authorizes the highway commission to construct improve and maintain roads and to locate highways through small communities, with funding and maintenance support as needed. Senate sponsors note the measure targets underfunded small communities while not mandating construction.

Iowa farms show smaller livestock inventories on January 1 1937 than a year earlier due to droughts in 1936. Hogs total 6 525 000 head down 10 percent. cattle 4 455 000 head down 7 percent. Farm values slide with lower per head prices, especially in western counties. Milk cows near 1 502 000 head, calves and heifers reduced, grain fed cattle declines most in west.
