Immigration officers joined Chicago police in a broad crime drive. About 1,000 arrests have been made since Saturday with 30 gunmen indicted and 200 sent toward prison. Irene Berent and three other women were among those processed at the showup as officers pursued illegal entrants.
A vesper service at the Methodist church drew a large crowd. The Sovereigns from the University of Iowa, directed by Merritt Foster, performed a varied quartet program and organ solos by Fossler. The silver offering totaled 53.40, mainly for choir robes, with expenses covered first.

Paris February 17 The government of Premier Andre Tardieu resigned following a 281 to 286 defeat in the chamber of deputies over the finance program. With Tardieu ill in bed, Finance Minister Cheron defended the measures while Armand Briand urged continuation as London naval talks loom.
About one hundred young people attended a post service gathering at the YMCA after church Sunday evening. Mrs A A Vinz led the singing.

Washington high school clinched the 1930 county title at Wellman by defeating Crawfordsville 4 to 23 in the final. Coach Jim Shultz’s Demons surged in the second half after a close first half, outscoring Crawfordsville 41 to 16. Crawfordsville struggled with no field goals in the third and only one in the fourth. Washington had balanced scoring with no single star, earning the trophy in a strong team effort. Kalona beat Ainsworth 84 to 21 in the consolation.
