Newton Griffin 73 Dies After Long Illness
Newton J. Griffin, 73, died at 7 40 this morning after years of declining health. The body was taken to L A Jones funeral home for services at two oclock Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev Al A Wing of the Baptist church, followed by burial in Elm Grove. He was born in Franklin Township June 1860, lived in Marion, moved to Brighton in 1900 and to Washington nine years ago. Surviving are a son Charles of Washington, a daughter Mrs George Lemley of southwest of town, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Merle White of Brighton are parents of a baby girl born yesterday at Washington county hospital.
