Declamatory contest opens at Crawfordsville school auditorium
A large crowd attended the first night of the declamatory contest in the Crawfordsville school auditorium. Judges from Iowa Wesleyan College stirred debate over the winners in both oratorical and dramatic divisions. Trevor Davies won Creative Citizenship and Joseph Jones was second for Masterful Man of the Ages in oratory. Thelma Edgar won The Promise and Louise Barnes second with The Littlest Orphan in drama. Washington High Debaters Split Triangular Contests
Washington high school placed second in a triangular debate with Iowa City and Brighton as Iowa City won and will face another eastern Iowa winner. Washington’s affirmative team Berne Enslin and William Masson beat Brighton’s Geneva Eyestone and Carl Dihlman 3–0. Iowa City’s Clinton Mayer and Woodland Woodard defeated Washington’s Cherrie McElhinney and George Jones 2–1. The same abolition of the petit jury resolution was debated. judges were William D.
