The Iowa Senate approved the McIntosh bill 28 to 14, making any vehicle carrying liquor within the state subject to seizure and sale with proceeds going to the county school fund. The measure is part of W C T U sponsored liquor bills amid other legislative actions.
Rail rate experts testify as western freight rate hearing resumes before the Interstate Commerce Commission in Kansas City. The nine-state coalition seeks a further cut in grain, grain products and hay rates, challenging past increases and citing an estimated 32 million dollar potential reduction.
A bill by Senator Shinn would prohibit loaning primary road funds between counties, making the money the property of the county it is appropriated to. Senator Abben of Lyon introduces a resolution for a mid session recess from Feb 23 to March 6.

Gelsenkirchen is fined 100 million marks to be paid tomorrow after the clash between French gendarmes and German police. The burgomaster, chief of police, and several officers were arrested in connection with the incident which heightened French German tensions. German soldiers and gendarmes exchanged fire near the mayor’s office, wounding two.
President Harding will call another conference of state governors to meet in Washington to discuss prohibition enforcement. No date has been set for the meeting.
The senate Republican leaders agreed to lay aside the administration shipping bill to speed passage of the Great Britain debt funding. Senator Lodge and Senator Watson assured President Harding of swift action on the debt plan as debate opens with Chairman McCumber declaring terms the best possible.

The Senate approved the Norris amendment to the federal constitution eliminating the sitting of a new congress after elections and changing the presidential inauguration from March 4 to the third Monday in January. The resolution passed 63 to 6 and moves to the House for approval.
Ten people were injured when a combined freight and passenger train on the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad derailed near Homer due to spread rails. Two sleepers on the Aberdeen Sioux City train were derailed near Alpena with one injured.
