Pancake and Hog Sausage Feed To Aid Local Association
The Washington County Association for Retarded Children sponsors a pancake and whole hog sausage feed at Washington City Hall on Wednesday to fund playground equipment for retarded children. Serving begins at noon and continues through supper. Adults pay $1.50 and children under 12 pay $1. Tickets are sold at the Developmental Center Farrell's Office Supply and at the door.

Two U.S. reporters detained at Moscow protest
United Press International reporters Ray Moseley and Christopher Ogden were detained by police during a Moscow street demonstration accused of taking part in a provocation. Officers confiscated their film, they were not allowed to contact the American consulate, and were released after about three hours.

The Washington YMCA Indian Guides and Princesses held a Sunday evening induction in the Y Community Room with a sandwich supper. A three-building complex owned by Carter Lake suffered heavy damage in an early morning blaze. The fire station and maintenance garage were nearly total losses, while a workshop building was badly damaged but potentially repairable. The city’s two fire trucks, bought two weeks earlier, were destroyed alongside saved snowplows and sanding equipment. Police Chief Roy Housh said investigation into the cause continues.

High School acting groups rate highest at state contest
Two duet acting groups from the local high school earned No 1 ratings at Bettendorf in the large group state speech contest.
