Washington Community School Board Eyes Salary Increases And Plans
The Washington Community School Board approved a non discrimination resolution tied to federal aid and discussed changes in district operations tied to two merger votes next week. Reports on high and junior high terms for 1965 66 were presented by principals Kelly Schlapkohl and Jesse Linch. A salary committee proposed about 275 a year per teacher for 1965 66. The board set August 31 as the opening date for the next school year and accepted the resignation of kindergarten teacher Betty Donnelly.

Derby trial set for March 15 in Sigourney
The trial of Larry Wayne Derby, 20, for the slaying of a 74 year old farmer is scheduled March 15 in Keokuk County District Court at Sigourney. Derby, held in the county jail, pleaded innocent to second degree murder. He was on leave from Fort Carson when the shooting occurred November 30, 1964. Also noted is the Kalona funeral for Frank Vodicka, with burial in Richmond Cemetery, born March 21, 1801 near Kalona, a retired farmer and church member.

United Press International reports heavy snow and blizzard conditions across west and north central areas with snow spreading statewide. A band from Omaha to Mason City could see 5 to 10 inches, plus freezing rain in the southeast. Snow continues tonight, with diminishing totals Friday and continued cold and blowing snow. Overnight low range zero to 10 above in the northwest to 15 to 20 in the southeast. Friday highs 15 to the northwest and 20s in the southeast.

Heaviest reprisal raids hit North Viet Nam planes involved
Nearly 150 U.S. and South Vietnamese warplanes blasted targets in southern North Viet Nam in the week’s heaviest reprisal raid. Funeral Rites Today for Charles I Enfield
Funeral services for Charles I. Enfield 35 of Iowa City and former Wellman resident were held at Powell Funeral Home Wellman with Rev Earl Josten officiating. Burial followed in Wellman Cemetery. He was born March 3 1990 in Wellman to Ivan and Maude Mattison Enfield. He attended Wellman schools and Commercial College in Iowa City. He married Dorothy Johnston June 29 1957 in Wellman Methodist Church. He worked as a bookkeeper and taxi driver in Town City. He is survived by his wife his father two brothers Richard of Oxford and Arthur of Wellman and one sister Geraldine of Burlington.
