A 3-year-old boy named Robert Jensen, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Jensen, drowned in Walnut Creek. Police and rescue divers searched the swollen water for two hours using a rowboat and grappling hooks, locating the body wedged in brush near the Milwaukee railroad bridge several hundred feet south of the family trailer.
Justice of the Peace Mike P. Hogan 76 resigns after performing over 7000 weddings in 14 years. His son Mike P. Jr. is named successor by the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors. Hogan’s peak year was 1940 with 2800 marriages. 1938 had 1100 and 1939 had 1600 marriages.
Iowa housewives will have jar rubbers for home canning despite rubber shortages as Prof. Sybil Woodruff of State University of Iowa explains rubbers have a priorities rating to help women preserve home garden products. Adequate tin cans for home use are assured for the canning season, she adds.
The Amana society announced $1,958,912.60 in sales for 1941 at the annual stockholders meeting, far above 1940 receipts of $1,664,516.96. Secretary Peter Stuck noted a yearly increase since reorganization ten years ago and a new 25,000 yard government contract with the Amana woolen mills.
DES MOINES Judge Frank S. Shankland asks Polk county supervisors to raise jurors meal allowance from 50 to 75 cents. The move follows a $1,000 appropriation for 1942 meals and a 50 cent limit. He cites embarrassment at asking jurors to pay for dessert.
Iowa state conservation commission approved by state comptroller Do. Fred Porter salary increases for eight employees. Four raises honor promotions, four address lower pay brackets to meet rising living costs, said commission director Fred Sechwob.

In a Lake Field training accident near Hachita New Mexico four Army Air Corps cadets were killed when five planes crashed during a heavy rainstorm. The fifth plane with an instructor parachuted to safety. Names identified include Walter Beamer 28 Charles Coats 24 Earl Fritz 24 Fay Book 23, with Thomas Bohr 23 surviving.
Robert L. Blickensderfer sues Addie B. Blickensderfer in Washington County District Court for desertion with attorney George F. Morrison. A separate notice states Murriel Beth Matlock’s divorce suit against Clayton Flagg Matlock has been dismissed per clerk of court records.

Funeral services set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sherman’s funeral home with Rev. Ivan Riess officiating. burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Surviving are five brothers and one sister, including Steve, Harry, Elmer, Will Jones, and Mrs. Frank Scranton. Born February 16, 1864 in Jefferson County Ohio, he moved to the area as a boy and lived there until last May.
Government offices at the Washington county courthouse will be closed tomorrow February 12, a legal holiday honoring Abraham Lincoln. The closure affects all county departments and services.
A car driven by Howard Fuller of Wellman and a hog truck owned by Roy Rowe of Kisnross collided three miles west of Wellman. The truck overturned, hogs escaped unharmed, and minor vehicle damage occurred. Injured include Doyle Smith of West Chester with severe leg and knee injuries and Mrs. Floyd Pine of Columbus Junction with a broken jaw.
Federal agents detained a German American Bund member for removal to Minneapolis to face falsifying a draft questionnaire. John Charles Grub, alias Jacob Carl Grub, questioned over blueprints found at shipyard work sites. Grub, a Bund member, claimed to support his Canadian wife who has received no support.

Mrs Annie Adel Thomas Case died this morning at Washington county hospital after a relapse following an operation last month. The service will be at 2 PM Friday at the Presbyterian church conducted by Dr. F W Eastwood. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Survived by two sons Ralph Thomas and Louis Arthur with four grandchildren. a son and daughter preceded her in death.
