Lindbergh Lands in Havana to Pan American Tour Finish

Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh completed his Latin America goodwill flight at Havana's Flyingfield at 3 56 p m today. He departed Port au Prince Haiti at 6 35 a m, flying the 720 mile leg despite a leaky valve and staying ahead of his planned schedule.

Lindbergh Nears Cuba On Final Leg Of Goodwill Flight

Col. Charles A. Lindbergh left Port au Prince at 6 35 a m on the final leg toward Havana Cuba after a two day goodwill tour. He described a circuitous 720 mile route along Cuba s coast before landing at Havana by about 4 p m local time. He noted a leaky valve in the plane but laughed it off saying it would be fixed in Havana.

Legion Discusses Buying Second United Presbyterian Church

At the Legion post meeting in City Hall rooms yesterday evening a committee was named to study buying the Second United Presbyterian church property from trustees. The panel will review original price remodeling costs upkeep and other details before a decision. Preston Wolf outlined plans for an indoor carnival to be held on the 24th and 25th with no gate charge but paid attractions. The post also voted against sponsoring a home talent play this winter and will not conduct strictly military funerals though pallbearers and a bugler may be provided on request due to many members lacking uniforms.

Washington Wins Dual Indoor Track Meet Against University High

Washington high school defeated University High of Iowa City 58 1 2 to 31 1 2 in a dual indoor meet. McDaniel led Washington with 17 points, Kay of University High added 13. Events included sprints, hurdles, distance races, jumps, and throws with competitive times for the season.

James K. Young Dies at Home in Kentucky

James K. Young died at eleven o'clock this morning at his home 302 South Marion avenue after more than two years of heart ailment. He is survived by his widow four daughters Mrs Fred Neefc Wanger Mrs P J Wallace of Washington Mrs Joe Hunt of Storm Lake Iowa and Mrs R C DuBois of Chicago and two grandchildren Mrs George Navy and Miss Vandaline Neiswanger. Matron at Indiana Boys School Attacked by Inmate

Mrs. Helen Kirk matron at the Plainfield state boys school was critically injured in an assault by Anson Hafer 16 an escaping inmate Hafer admitted the attack and was charged with assault with intent to kill Hafer fled by taxi and was recaptured near Brazil Indiana Hafer had previous incorrigibility sentence and was returned to custody.

Presbyterian Men Devour Pancakes in Annual Supper

The Presbyterian church men held their annual pancake supper with maple syrup and coffee served by the young men. Prof H E Case was thanked for starting the event though ill and missed. The kitchen crew led by HW A Pauls and Joh Jackson baked, while Paul Gorham acted as toastmaster for a brief program with remarks from C S Lemmon, W J Brooks, Orville Elder and Dr F W Eastwood. The Shields orchestra provided music and the gathering ended on a hopeful note about the work of the Men's Bible class and Sunday School.

Federal government troops move against rebels in Mexico

In Mexico City February reports indicate the government is concentrating forces in Jalisco and Guanajuato to crush rebel activity. War Minister Joaquin Amaro directs operations in Los Altos Guanajuato as rebels flee from Jalisco, with trains attacked and battles near Pilhuamo leaving fourteen rebels dead and five captured and executed. A Manzanillo train was fired on by rebels, five passengers wounded, and federal bombers dispersed the attackers.
