President Kennedy urged Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to 1.25 an hour and extend coverage to 43 million workers. He framed the move as necessary to prevent an under privileged and under paid class and said it would come through annual adjustments. He also outlined forthcoming messages on medical care for the aged education and other federal programs.

Collins Researcher To Speak at High School
David Hodgin head of applied research at Collins Radio Cedar Rapids will speak at Washington High School February 16 as the second part of a double barreled science program. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation Iowa Academy of Science and the State University of Iowa. Dr Richard Campbell of SUI chemistry department spoke January 19 in the first program. Hodgin will issue a charter to the Future Scientists of America chapter during an assembly. The program aims to improve math and science teaching and spark student interest in science activities.

Dewey Hess Dies in Russell Iowa
Dewey Hess, pharmacist at MecDaniel's Drug Store from 1921 to 1930, died suddenly at his Russell Iowa home after a recent heart attack. He owned and operated a Russell drug store and was an uncle of Howard Hess of Washington with other relatives in the community.

Seven executives jailed for price fixing in electrical industry
Chief Judge J Cullen Ganey sentenced seven top executives to 30 days in jail and fined firms and individuals nearly 1 million dollars for extensive price fixing and bid rigging. Mrs. Ceba Sartain Dies In Tennessee
Mrs. Ceba Sartain of Knoxville Tennessee died Monday evening. She was the mother of Mrs Audrey Dusenbery of Washington and had visited here several times. Del Elwell Former Denison Resident Claimed
Word has been received of the death of Del Elwell in Denison Iowa on January 29. Elwell was 68, retired as manager of the Western Light and Telephone Co in Denison, and formerly worked for Bell Telephone in Carroll while later managing the Denison plant for 32 years. Survived by wife Magdelena and brothers Richard and Harold, both of Woodland Park Colorado. Funeral services were held in Denison and he was a brother of Mrs Arlo Jones of Colorado.
