John Harrison Hays 85 died after a ten day illness. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday at Sherman's funeral home with Rev. W L Clapp officiating. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Survived by two sons Warren and Clair Hays, a daughter Mrs Cecil Cross, a step son Jack Benetier, a step daughter Mrs Dorothy Young, seven grandchildren, a sister Mrs John Davidson and four brothers, plus other relatives. Born April 11 1861 in Harrison County Indiana he lived in Davenport Rock Island and Chicago and worked as a carpenter and cemetery worker. He married Nora Warren in 1891 and Emily Benever in 1912.

James E. Long 68 of Brighton died at the county hospital after failing health since July. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at L. A. Jones funeral home with Rev. Clapp and Rev. He was born May 42 1875 near Crawfordsville, married Jennie Myrtle White in 1899, and is survived by his wife, son Ora Long of Brighton, granddaughter Mrs. Ralph Brown, great granddaughter, two brothers, Carey Long of Brighton, and a sister. A fire damaged the Beal house, with residents displaced and ongoing salvage efforts. Firefighters remained on scene into the night and morning. Beal house, once owned by S. W. Neal, was a prominent Crawfordsville residence.
