Des Moines notes recount a column about fake sergeant O Leary who enlisted 34 boys at Eldora and brought them to Fort Des Moines. Officials later exposed him as not a recruiting officer. Twenty seven of the boys are now serving in the armed forces and performing well.
In Iowa, 16 year old John Conty of Chicago died in a Marshalltown hospital from bullet wounds after a chase sparked by stolen cars. State Patrolman Kermit W. Rhodes fired on the fleeing vehicle as Roland Pechar and Tom Mitchell also fled from a stolen car sequence spanning Chicago Moline Davenport Vipton.
Des Moines youth Glenn V. Loose of Troop F 118th Cavalry was accidentally shot and killed at Fort Clark Texas, authorities inform the youth's mother. Telegram offered no details on how the accident occurred.
Des Moines says the Iowa state patrol will strip nonessential gear from its 124 cars. Chief C A Knee issued the order to remove superficial accessories and gadgets.
Donald Gould of Spencer pleaded guilty to stealing 1270 pounds of butter from a Sibley dairy plant and to taking nine tires rims and wheels from two trucks in Hart storage garage Spencer. He was sentenced to ten years in Fort Madison penitentiary.
Members of the Scott County Medical association implement a new fee schedule for patient visits. Daytime home calls rise from 3 to 4 dollars, evening calls 5 dollars, and calls after 11 p m double the daytime rate. Office calls increase to 2 dollars and up.
Joseph Snyder Jr. aged 70, a retired farmer, died of a heart attack after moving from Delmar to Davenport. He is survived by his father Joseph Snyder Sr., 97.
Kansas City dispatch notes Ford Owen, head of the nation’s largest mule business, says city folk will not abandon motor vehicles for horses. He warns replacing delivery trucks with mules is impractical, noting long distances, lack of proper equipment, and high current use of cars and trucks.

Funeral services for John Wesley White were conducted yesterday at L. A. Jones funeral home under Dr. F. W. Eastwood. Six grandsons served as pallbearers: Nate Young, Dick Young, John Young, Cloyce Babcock, William Chilcote, and John Skubal. Burial followed at Elm Grove cemetery.

Davenport report states Thomas Hawkins Jr., 27, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his estranged wife on December 6, 1941. Judge W. W. Scott interrupted a hearing on guilt to hear defense testimony and found none, then pronounced sentence.

Funeral Saturday at 2 pm at L A Jones funeral home with Dr R C Keagy officiating and Elm Grove cemetery burial. Survived by children Frank Longer James Longer Fred Longer Will Longer Bessie Smith Kolosick Charles Nebergal Welter Longer and a deceased daughter Mrs William Kos. Also two sisters Mrs Joe Prezek and Mrs James Marek.
A group of boys met in the County Farm Bureau office to reorganize a 4-H club named the Hustler 4-H with Alvin Leader as leader. They planned projects and activities at local and national levels, viewed colored slides, and set a new meeting for 7 30 Wednesday evening March 4 at the Farm Bureau office. Attending were Warren Dare Dick Dare Robert McLaughlin Harold Gamon Victor Thompson Duane Thompson Theodore Stewart. Fathers present were George Dare Glenn Thompson Cloyce Stewart and John Gamon.
