At high noon today in Ainsworth Nellie Acheson wed Jas E Clegg Jr in a ceremony led by Rev. Johnson. The couple, both of the city, begin life under favorable circumstances with community good wishes for their future together. In Muscatine on Feb 4 a man named Cooney Vanaucken, believed to be the thief of a horse team, is mentioned in relation to a theft case.
In Davenport this morning Sheriff Deford of Louisa County reported that the suspect, who fled from Columbus Junction after selling a team to Hank Kane of this city, was arrested. Deputy Marshal McKinavy noted the prisoner would arrive on the Firefly this evening and sought Kane for identification. The officer is confident the correct man is in custody.
Mayor Anthony W. Jaques received word from Gov. I. M. Drake of his appointment as Judge Advocate General of the Town National Guard with Brigadier General rank. The role mirrors the state attorney general for the National Guard, with duties to pass opinions on legal questions. The appointment follows influence from Representative Henry J. Brighton, and local congratulations pour in as a notable honor. Also listed are pension grants for several residents including Charles Henderson, Carroll. David Lamb, Madrid. Charles Byrd No 6407 an inmate at the penitentiary explains he cut off the index finger to avoid the descending knife at the machine cutting garden hoes. He was sent from Potawatomi county in 1895 for burglary and is now eighteen. Byrd previously complained of his dull tasks and may return to the same work.
