Washington to Publish 125th Anniversary Souvenir Book
A souvenir historical program for Washington's 125th Anniversary will be published this summer. The 90 to 100 page book, half reserved for early Washington sketches by the Washington County Historical Society, will feature antique photographs. Printing costs are funded by local ads, with 1200 copies planned and sales to support celebration expenses. Local residents can buy soon. out of town residents may reserve through the Chamber of Commerce.

The Washington County swine Producers Association will hold its spring market hog show on Tuesday February 11 at the sale barn in Washington. Exhibitors from Washington and nearby counties may enter one two or three barrows. All hogs will be slaughtered and entered in the carcass contest with the top 15 pigs chosen live for comparison with carcass data when available. On Feb 19 John Halstead of Bath Packing Co will explain carcass data at the Fair grounds in Washington. The public is urged to participate as exhibitors or spectators.

Local students take Iowa Tests of Basic Skills this week
Washington Community Schools grades three through eight administer Iowa Tests of Basic Skills to over 800 students. The program uses part of each school day in elementary and junior high buildings. Tests cover vocabulary reading language work-study skills arithmetic and provide result graphs to compare each student with peers. Parents and pupils will study results to identify areas needing extra work and set improvement goals.
