Peter I. Helmuth aged 68 died at his home five miles north of Kalona after about a year of illness. Funeral at Sharon Bethel Mennonite Church with Jonathan Miller officiating. Snow Storm In Panhandle Hides Fate of Texans
A Panhandle snowstorm blocked roads across the western states with drifts up to 10 feet. A Dalhart Texas Panhandle school bus and about eight students were missing after being stalled, while three men were lost near Boise City Oklahoma. Several roads across eastern Colorado and the Rockies faced closures and school cancellations. In Louisiana a tornado slammed Thibodaux injuring six and destroying seven homes, and a sulphuric acid truck crash near El Paso killed three.
