The U S Supreme Court denied Japan's General Tomoyuki Yamashita a civil trial and upheld his wartime military tribunal. Chief Justice Stone wrote the majority opinion 6 to 2 with dissents by Murphy and Rutledge. Yamashita was convicted of 60 000 atrocities in the Philippines and Luzon campaign and sentenced to hang.
