The Iowa Crop Improvement Association of Iowa State University named three eastern Town farmers as 1975 masters in corn and soybeans. Terry Jamison of Burlington led corn with 198.67 bushels per acre, a top showing though short of the 202.79 bushels record set by a Winfield grower in 1971. Walter Dengler of Davenport set a soybean record at 69 bushels per acre, more than double the 1975 state average of four. Robert Beck of Bellevue repeated as contour corn champ with 193.56 bushels per acre, his fourth title after victories in 1966 1967 and 1970. The association said 3487 corn entrants and five soybean entrants competed.

Two 19 Year Old Men Die In One Car Crash Near Washington
Two 19 year olds, Gary Lee Hall of Wapello and Philip Lee Wagler of Wayland, were killed in a frost bound one car crash on the Wayland Washington road. The car left the southbound roadway, overturned in a field, and both occupants were thrown out. The crash occurred about 2 p.m. and was not found until 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The driver could not be determined. Funeral services for Philip Wagler are set for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayland Mennonite Church with burial in North Hill Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Wayland Mennonite Church. All Wayland businesses will close 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Wagler, born August 27, 1956, in Washington, was a 1974 Waco High School graduate and a student at AIB in Des Moines. He was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church. Survivors include his parents Edwin and Joyce Wagler, a sister Pamela Lynn, a brother Russell Edwin, all at home, and his grandparents Harold Kauffman and Alfred Wagler family members.
